I assume that most of my fellow Americans do not realize that a lot of the European clubs are actually multi-sport clubs. Just like colleges in the US, the same club with the same colors and same top level administration and same athletic campus competes in multiple sports. Having grown up cheering for a college team, I think I favor the European system; one team for all sports builds camaraderie, plus the opportunities for all levels of play is cool. On the other hand, merchandising is far superior in the US system, because now fans need to buy memorabilia for each team.
