CBS “Sant Boi” has won the Copa de Rey 2016 in Barcelona this past weekend, the league cup tournament in the Spanish Division de Honor. They edged out vice champion “Tenerife Marlins” 1-0 in the final on Sunday. Eric Izquierdo and Yans Perez kept “Tenerife” off the board despite allowing nine hits and five walks in eight-plus innings. Jesus Golindano scored the lone run in the top of the seventh after a sac fly by Ruben Fente.

Already the semi-finals had produced close games. “Tenerife” had beaten CB “Barcelona” 2-1 in ten innings on Saturday, while “Sant Boi” prevailed 5-4 over Spanish champion “Astros Valencia”. The “Astros” then clinched third place with a 6-1 victory over “Barcelona”.
