President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca presided over the launch of a fundraising activity, organized by the Gozo Sports Board chaired by Mr Alvin Grech, in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, at San Anton Palace, Attard.

President Coleiro Preca thanked the committee for ‘Solidarity in Sports,’ headed by Mr. Antoine Attard, the Gozo Sports Board and the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, for their commitment to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, and she especially thanked the Gozitans for their continuous support.

The President stressed that Gozo is important and should always be given the visibility it deserves. She said she had this in mind when two years ago the office of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation at Victoria, Gozo was opened – so Gozitans have easier access to the Foundation without a distance to travel.

The Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo said that Gozo is in solidarity with sports. He said that this year, the Ministry for Gozo, through the Gozo Sports Board will have a central role in organizing various sports activities in Gozo. Enabling Gozitan athletes to have the opportunity to be part of this noble campaign.

He explained that this is the first year the event will be organized in Gozo on this level, which will be held over five weeks, with different sport activities held to collect funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Several Gozitan sports organizations will be involved and among the activities there will be several tournaments including, Football, Futsal, Billiards, Snooker, Baseball and Badminton.

Dr Refalo expressed satisfaction on the strong sense of solidarity by the sporting organizations in Gozo.

He also said that he was aware of the problems that the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation faces every day within the community.

He thanked the MCCF for providing so much assistance and giving a better quality of life to anyone in need and who is undergoing a difficult time in their lives.
