“Fences” – film about internal struggle for baseball
“Fences” is drama film written by August Wilson and based on his play of the same name. It centers on a black garbage collector named Troy Maxson in 1950s Pittsburgh. He dreams to become a professional baseball player. But at a step when the Premier League starts to take black players he is too old. Troy starts act desperately and thus harms his family.
Denzel Washington directed and stars in this adaptation of Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
“The main message of this film is to fight, no matter you are black, white or green! To find and follow your own path! It doesn’t matter who is the president, no matter whether you have job or not. We forgot about politics and live! In the modern world confession and reward seem to be so easy, but in reality we face flip side of the coin. And this is what protagonist shows us by his example in this film”- says the actor.
Viola Davis shines along with Washington on the screen. She played the long-suffering wife of a selfish Troy Maxson. Her character represents lost dreams, betrayal and racial prejudices in America of 50th years.
“I drew inspiration from all women of my life – my mother, friends and relatives. A full character was already written in scenario, so, I knew who she is going to be. However, some parts of material had to be overviewed otherwise the character would be still remained on paper,”- Viola Davis said.
“Fences” was released in the United States on December 25, 2016. The film gets so many positive reviews, that some said Washington would receive Oscar in “Best Actor” nomination. If so, it will be his third statuette.
In most European countries premiere is scheduled for February, 2017.
