Residents of the Chernivtsi city (Ukraine) propose to create a baseball-softball sports center in the city.

The petition with the corresponding request was registered on the portal for the uniform system of local petitions.

“Baseball and softball are Olympic sports and they have been developing in Chernivtsi since 1986. Softball players from Chernivtsi city have participated in the first USSR championship. Today softball comes short of baseball development and there is an objective reason for that. And one of the main reasons is the lack of special construction for this sport. Unlike softball, baseball managed to withstand thanks to the baseball field which was built on the outskirt of the Chernivtsi city. Unfortunately, the transfer of children to the location for training and competitions is very challenging because it takes nearly an hour to reach the baseball field. The “Sokoly” team represents Chernivtsi city in the major division during Ukrainian championships for many years.  The “Sokoly” team is the runner-up and European champions in the both European club championship and in the national teams of Ukraine.

For many years, baseball has been ranked the first place among the sports games in the Chernivtsi. According to the petition, there is a lack of sports constructions for children and youth and there is no arena for baseball and softball games in the Chernivtsi. Therefore, it was necessary to address with the petition to the Chernivtsi City Council with the request to allocate land and build baseball-softball sports center in the Chernivtsi city”, – the petition states.
