Dominican Republic qualifies for baseball medal event at 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games
Dominican Republic qualified to play in the baseball medal event at the Central American and Caribbean Games 2018.
The Dominican Republic went undefeated to win the four-nation, round-robin qualifying tournament in Santo Domingo, starting with a win over Aruba by forfeit.
In their second game, the hosts defeated Curaçao, 3-1. Former Major Leaguer Ronny Paulino (he appeared in 573 games over 8 years for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles) gave them all of the production needed with a 3-run home run off starter Cerilio Soleana.
The Dominican Republic won their third and final game against U.S. Virgin Islands, 11-1.
The Dominican Republic joins host Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, among the baseball nations qualified for the Central American and Caribbean Games. The eighth and final squad will advance from the Central American Games this December in Managua, Nicaragua.
