Germany’s Marco Cardoso signs with Boston Red Sox
17-year-old German shortstop Marco Cardoso of the Untouchables Paderborn has signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox.
Marco Cardoso is going to the Dominican Republic for a four-week training camp before being assigned to a minor league affiliate of the Red Sox.
Cardoso, who got in touch with baseball through a school project of the Untouchables in Paderborn, is the second German player with the Boston based MLB organization after Jennell Hudson. He is also the second player of the Untouchables to sign with a MLB club after Nadir Ljatifi (Cincinnati Reds), also a shortstop.
Cardoso was hitting .263/.289/.350 in 19 games with the Untouchables in the German Baseball-Bundesliga this year. According to the Paderborn press release he got signed after impressing scouts at the Prague Baseball Week at the end of June.
