Riley Barr and Zack Johnson have joined „Mainz Athletics“
After new pitcher Riley Barr and outfielder/catcher Zach Johnson have joined the “Mainz Athletics” team is waiting for the last newcomer who is expected to join the team next week.
Riley Barr played for the «Gosnells Hawks» in Australian baseball league, and almost reached the playoff with this team. The 25-year-old pitcher from Colorado played in 87.2 innings – he made 95 strikeouts (the third best result in league) and lost only 19 walks. His ERA of 2.87 was surpassed by only five pitchers.
Along with Barr, Canadian Zack Johnson has also joined the team. He already has an experience of playing in Bundesliga. Last season he played for the «Mannheim Tornados» as an emergency replacement for Manuel Hernandez. With a batting average of .367 and eight homeruns in 25 games the outfielder was one of the best attackers of the South Bundesliga.
It remains a few days before the beginning of Bundesliga season in Stuttgart and the team «Mainz Athletics» is almost completed. “We don’t have much time to integrate new players,” – Coach Max Boldt says. “Thus we have to do everything at an accelerated rate but I’m sure guys will catch up quickly, because they are real professionals”.
