Defending World Champion Dominican Republic beat Canada 9-2 on Thursday evening at the first game at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Opening that first-round pool they scored four runs in the second en route to an easy win, collecting 15 hits.
Homeruns by Welington Castillo and Jose Bautista set the highlights for a strong performance by the Dominican team. Bautista finished with three hits and four RBI. Canada scored after a balk and a RBI double by Dalton Pompey.
