World Baseball Classic, Inc. invited five umpires from Europe to participate during the main tournament in March 2017.

Winfried Berkvens (NED) and Michael Ulloa (ESP) are going to Mexico, Jens Waider (GER) and Fabrizio Fabrizi (ITA) to Japan and Frantisek Pribyl (CZE) to Korea.

“We succeeded in one of our goals, which we have as CEB umpire commission, to have more European umpires in the World Baseball Classic,” said a happy Paul Bokern, CEB’s umpire director. “Our European umpires get now the opportunity to work with the highest level of teams, players and umpires. It is a great moment for baseball umpiring Europe.”
