FIBT Yoshida Challenge: Netherlands comes back against Germany to defend title

The Netherlands have defended their title at the France International Baseball Tournament Yoshida Challenge. On Sunday they came back from a 0-2 deficit to beat Germany 5-3 in the final. In the preliminary phase the Dutch team had prevailed 12-4.
Germany took a perfect start into the contest, when Chris Howard went deep for a two-run home run off his Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg teammate Mike Bolsenbroek. Fellow Regensburg pitcher Jonathan Eisenhuth meanwhile kept the Dutch team hit and scoreless until a solo home run by Dashenko Ricardo to lead off the fifth.
Eisenhuth then was replaced by Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez in the sixth and the Dutch team turned the score around. Yurendell de Caster tied the game with a RBI single. With two outs Ricardo followed with two-run single to get the Netherlands a 4-2 lead. Howard drove in Marcel Jimenez (also from Regensburg) in the eighth to make it a 3-4 ball game. But a RBI fielder’s choice by Dudley Leonora and a perfect ninth by Loek van Mil secured the Dutch win.

Earlier on the day France clinched third place in the final standing with a 12-9 extra-inning win over the International Stars. It was a slugfest, where France blew and early 6-2 lead and then tied the game in the eighth to force extra innings. In the tenth Frederic Hanvi andBastien Dagneau drove in three runs with a pair of singles to give France the win. Dagneaualso homered and collected four RBI overall. Jack Shannon and Brandon Marshall had four hits apiece for the International Stars.
