The preliminary round at the 2017 U23 European Championship got concluded with 8 games. The quarterfinalists were already known, only the seeding list was on the line on the last day of the 1st round.

In Group A the Netherlands downed Croatia 18-3, using a pair of six-run innings to claim first place in that pool.

In Group B Spain beat Great Britain 4-1. Eric Izquierdo conceded only one run on six hits and two walks in six innings.

In Group C Germany celebrated a 9-8 comeback win over France, scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.

In Group D the Czech Republic shut out Belgium 17-0, scoring all runs in the first four innings.
